MY WAY – A QCinatra Syonara Sonata

And now, the end is near
And so I’ve played
My final diamond
My friends, we’ll have a beer
Or two or three
You can rely on
(16) seasons is the reason
I’m proud to be a Hooiyouooo
As cleats and glove have seen
So many years through.

We’ve played some mighty games
And shockers too
(Tho’) too few to mention
We’ve played some easy beats
And then we’ve played
With anxious tension
We’ve played at Oakleigh Park
We’ve played the ghastly Chardy Wankers
And won grand finals, too
For which we’ve hankered.

We’ve shared a laugh or two
And then enjoyed
Some fiery rancour
The tears I tore from Benny
Gave me plenty
To play on for
I’ve seen some dodgy calls
And firm rebukes
From Waz and Kiwi
We’ve played strategic games
Devised by Billy.

For what is a team
What has it got
Without its Glenn, its Tone, its Scott
Without its Skid, its Ad, its Phil
Without its Dale and Simon, too?
But more its past
Its  players then
Which leads to Eugene.

He’s played though really dead
Yet kept alive
On dugout wire
Though he’s been gone for years
He’s joined our games
From diamond higher
We hear his metaphors
Of pineapples and two bananas
While watching over us
From his cabana.

The end is with us now
We lay to rest
The mighty Hooiyouooos
Some will play on and on
In teams remote
With great success, too
But share a thought or two
For years of fun
In sweat and sun
Though rain has marred this year
We found a new gear.

A final thanks to those
Who’ve made our fun
Richly enchanting
To Helen and the girls
And scorers, too
You’ve been enhancing
And Umps along the way
A weird and loony
Bunch of wackers
But praise, I give ‘em all
For sparking crackers.

And now, my ink is dry
I will not cry
Like pitcher Williams
We lay old Euge to rest
For years he’ll count in many millions.
K’s blog will linger on
To keep alive
All of our virtues
I bid you all good luck
You’ve been the Hoiyouooos.
